This version, which was the first mix of this song was much more acoustic sounding. Originally, Adam Noble, who mixed this track for the album, was going more for what we called the Ryan Adams sound... The acoustic guitars were much more prominent and the drums (especially the kick drum) had a very different treatment and sound. This version also has an additional snare drum hit in the fill going into the 2nd verse that had somehow gone missing in the version that made it onto the album. - JR
lyrics
you can't go home - you can't believe or imagine anything
the taste of hope and insanity was sweet and maddening
and the chords you’ve learned they don't ring the same
suddenly, it was gone
we are - trapped behind the lines in this cold cold war
behind the enemies lines what are we fighting for?
we're trapped behind the lines in this cold cold war
and we HOPE FOR BETTER DAYS
for better days to come
the hope of better days to come
its so cold here - the words are a mist not a meaning
explosive and loud - the grass has died from all the screaming
so many hands reach up from the wreckage of time
can we comfort all the ones that are still trapped inside
trapped behind the lines in this cold cold war
behind the enemies lines what are we fighting for
we're trapped behind the lines in this cold cold war
where we fight among
we fight among ourselves
we can't go on - we can't believe, imagine anything
still we kill the king of beasts just for a photograph
will the chords we sing ever ring the same?
where suddenly the cold is gone
with better days to come.......
with the hope of better days to come
with the hope of better days to come
with the hope of better days

It’s hard to accurately describe how much I love this album. Hearing how the songs came together in studio, after hearing them on the pandemic livestreams, is a true joy. Glen’s writing and singing are unrivaled, this whole collection is amazing. Thank you, Glen, for your beautiful music, for continuing to tour, and for just being a stellar human. sherig60
Terry Venemous is releasing new music every 3 weeks this year. His latest EP is sumptuous art pop with a wry sense of detachment.
